Man, I love JetBlue. It is the greatest airline out there. Just the TV set-up makes it worth the trip to JFK (maybe…). It was an all-around great experience. The leg room was spacious (since I am a big guy, leg room is a luxury that I don’t usually get to experience.), and the guy next to me was a nice, quiet guy who kept to himself (I hate random chatters during a flight. For the love of God, I do not want to hear about your 10 grandkids and how one of them won a spelling bee. Just read your SkyMall catalog and leave me alone).
JetBlue has one thing that I just absolutely loved. During the flight, the steward (male stewardess) came to each person with a pad, and was taking drink orders. If you wanted a Tom Collins, or a Cosmo, he would make it and serve it you. If you are like me, and don’t want to get completely sloshed at 30,000 feet, they have a variety of beverages. The thing that different was that it was not only free, but you can have as much as you want. I had a small Dunkin Donuts coffee, and a Coke Zero. Weird combo, but fuck it, it was free.
I also felt like a douche bag throughout the whole trip, because I had stolen a head set. When you start boarding the flight, they is a small glass casing that is filled with headsets. The headsets are available to everyone, but they cost $1. In front of a casing, is a small box for said dollar. The interesting part is that the casing that held the headset is not locked. People were opening it up and just grabbing one, while placing the dollar it is cash box. I grabbed a headset, and was about to pay when I noticed that there was a coat on the floor. Apparently, the guy in front of me dropped it when giving his boarding pass. I picked it up, rushed through the pass process and caught up with the guy. The entire process also made the paying of the dollar slip my mind, cause I went to my seat, and noticed that I had a headset, AND the dollar in my hand. And since I am Puerto-Rican, I wasn’t stupid enough to say anything, so I walked away with a free pair of headphones… Yeah… I am scummy.
We touched down at 7:45 and I got my bag at 8pm. I then jumped on the AirTrain ($5 for that ride… scandalous) to Jamaica Station for the E train. Took the E train to Queens Boulevard, and then transferred to the R train, which went local all the way to its last stop in Bay Ridge. Time on the airplane from Charlotte, NC to NYC: 100 minutes. Time on the trains from JFK airport to Marc’s apartment: 130 minutes… needless to say, I was none too happy with the MTA.
Once I got to Marc’s, we hung out for a while in his living room, catching up, having dinner (steak and roasted veggies… yummo!), and watched some UFC on Fox Sports Espanol (They showed the Tim Sylvia – Antonio Noguiera brawl for the belt). We then played Mario Golf on my laptop, until it overheated and died on us. That was a good indicator that the night was over. He went to sleep and ended up crashing out around 3am, watching some “Real Time with Bill Maher” on HBO OnDemand.
